More thoughts on Collaborative writing

In reflecting on collaborative writing in the fourth grade classroom, I realize that thinking maps provide an opportunity for collaborative writing in a simple form. Partners or trios share and write ideas to compare/contrast on a double bubble map, summarize a story with a flow map, or perhaps, think about cause and effect with a multi-flow map. This verbal sharing of ideas helps kids develop vocabulary as well as think critically.
